We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of People’s Blues of Richmond’s new song “My Guitar to Break” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s new album Quit Or Die.

Founding member & vocalist Tim Beavers II comments:

“‘My Guitar to Break’ originally started as two songs. The slower first half of the song was an untitled instrumental which we used to play on its own. The faster second half of the song used to be the whole song. Over the 11 years I’ve been playing guitar I’ve dealt with about a dozen accidentally broken guitars. In that time I’ve probably broken 20 or 30 more on purpose. When it’s unintentional it’s a tragedy; when it’s on purpose it’s a fucking blast. With this history of destruction in mind, I thought it’d be funny to write a song in the form of that old bed-time prayer with the last line: ‘If I should die before I awake, I pray the Lord my guitar to break.’ We combined the blues-rock prayer with the instrumental progression from before as an intro. We played it like that for a while then I added lyrics to the instrumental part that make it essentially a love song to a smashed guitar. We had a lot of fun writing this song and we hope you have a lot of fun listening to it.”
