The rock supergroup collective curated by guitarist Michael Ciravolo unleashes a dynamic and relevant track featuring dUg Pinnick (King’s X) and ICE-T (Body Count).
We live in an age of exciting, and sometimes surprising, supergroups and rock collective Beauty In Chaos fits both those categories perfectly. Beauty In Chaos is the brainchild of Los Angeles-based guitarist Michael Ciravolo.
The music project features a respected and eclectic mix of guest musicians as co-writers and performers, including, but not limited to, Wayne Hussey (The Mission), Simon Gallup (The Cure), Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Pete Parada (The Offspring), DUg Pinnick (Kings X), ICE-T (Body Count), Michael Aston (Gene Loves Jezebel), and Michael Anthony (Van Halen).
Beauty In Chaos will release debut album Finding Beauty in Chaos, which was produced by Michael Rozon, on September 28th via 33.3 Music Collective. The LP’s tracks “Storm” featuring Ashton Nyte (The Awakening, MGT) and “Man of Faith” featuring Wayne Hussey and Simon Gallup have both been premiered, and now “Un-Natural Disaster” is unleashed upon the world.
The foreboding and storming song highlights the fact that the Earth is in upheaval, with aberrant weather patterns and off-the-charts environmental disturbances (mainly from humankind-caused pollution and overpopulation/consumption). It’s a more-than-serious threat that is addressed with sobering lyrics that specifically reference destructive Hurricane Harvey which hit southern Texas last year as a Category 4 storm and devastated the region.
Pinnick emotes in a stricken tone, “I can’t believe the city’s underwater.” He documents the decimation bluntly (“People walking in water – in waste.”) and laments that people are just, “…waiting / and where do they go from there?”
ICE-T appears near the end of the number, hypnotically and rhythmically intoning the dire lyrics, “Hell from the heavens / as the body count grows / Watch news at eleven / for the final death toll.”
The chorus lifts even higher, quickly whipping up a whirlwind of propulsive sound driven by hard-punched drums, knob-twiddling electronics, and a searing guitar solo that roils and rages in a heavy metal tempest.
Pinnick reveals his thoughts about track: “Oh my god!! I just heard the mix of “Un-Natural Disaster”!! The drums and bass lock n’ groove heavy and the guitars are simply brutal! The highlight for me is hearing ICE-T adding to the story in such detail. This song was fun to do and record. Thanks to Michael for letting me be a part of this!! Much love!!”
Beauty In Chaos’ founder Michael Ciravolo is originally from New Orleans (another hard-hit region for storms and flooding) and has been a guitarist in alternative rock Human Drama for 30 years. He is also known as the President of Schecter Guitar Research. Ciravolo along with his wife Tish Ciravolo (founder of Daisy Rock Guitars) have played and recorded with Gene Loves Jezebel since 1998.
Doug Pinnick is the singer and bassist for long-running Texas-based hard rock band King’s X. The band is still active and planning on releasing a new album in the future. Pinnick has also released solo albums as Poundhound and under the moniker dUg Pinnick. He has been a member of several other bands and has contributed material as a go-to guest artist on other musicians’ recordings.
ICE-T, now a household name in entertainment due to his role as Odafin “Finn” Tutuola in Law & Order: SVU, is a multi-platform artist (rapper/songwriter, musician, TV and film actor, and record producer). He broke rap barriers by fronting the aggressive metal outfit Body Count in the early 1990s and has kept it going with latest album Bloodlust released last year.
