New Noise Magazine is pleased to be bringing forth the exclusive premiere of “Ammo” by The Frst. The song is a cool, relaxing soundscape blessed with plenty of atmosphere and grace.
“The initial idea was very simple, built around the bass hook in the beginning. I thought it would be cool to revive the charming AABA song-writing pattern, sort of give the listener a quick break from the verse/pre chorus/chorus format. Lyrically, you can go as deep as want, but the gist is, we all wrestle with our better and worst selves, and this is an ode to that, and trying to let go of some of the more negatives aspects.
With the blessings of the other members of The Frst, who unanimously said it was “ready to go”, minus a db [Decibal] of kick, or plus a db of bass here and there, I played all of the instruments myself on this one!”
After a decade spent as a decorated live rock guitarist, sharing stages with artists spanning the width and breadth of the music industry, such as Portugal. The Man, The Florida-Georgia Line and Sublime with Rome, singer-guitarist Mikei Gray had something different in mind when he started The Frst, in 2017.
Gray and his ever rotating cast of accompanying Nashville music heroes (including Andrew Leahey, Nathan Cogan (Taking Back Sunday), Jeff Hutchins (Insane Clown Posse) and Justin Smith) spent much of 2017 touring nationally, with shows spanning the length of the nation, from Key West, FL to Niagara Falls, NY. With James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Dashboard Confessional) and Andy Van Dette (The Beastie Boys, David Bowie) behind the controls, The Frst’s anthemic and urgent rock tunes come to life, brimming with heart and urgency.
