In 2006, the very first Sound and Fury Festival happened at the Alpine in Ventura, CA. It was a weekend where hardcore and punk kids from all across the world gathered in Southern California to watch, stage dive, two step, circle pit, mosh to their favorite bands. Each year from 2006 to 2012 the festival brought bands who were considered hardcore’s finest like Bane, Internal Affairs, Have Heart, Earth Crisis, H20, American Nightmare, 108 and even had a few current known names like Title Fight, Touche Amore, Deafheaven, Defeater, Foundation, Rotting Out, etc. get their humble starts in the festival scene. Even digging further the festival also showcased bands that touched the softer side of hardcore/punk kids with bands like Man Overboard, Transit, Seaheaven, Hostage Calm, Tigers Jaw and more.
In 2013, a tentative line up was put out but the popular California weekend rager never pushed thru and, I would say, just gone with the wind.
Moving forward to the middle of 2015, an Instagram post fired up people everywhere with a rumor of the festival coming back. I personally lost my shit and got all sorts of stoked. Around the second week of December that year, @soundandfuryfest hit the Instagram world with pictures from past fests and old posters and alas they dropped it. The date of SOUND AND FURY 2016. During the next few months they would announce the line up for S&F 2016.
Now, fast fucking forward to June 10, 2016. Day 1 of the comeback of Sound and Fury. After the success of the kick off show the night before the festival was going all in. Around noon, the sidewalk in front of Los Angeles’ The Regent Theater was filled with groups of people from across the world anticipating the comeback of such an amazing event.
Day 1 was stacked! Vamachara, Mizery, Minus, Jesus Piece, Blind Justice, Broken Teeth, Fell To Low, God’s Hate, Freedom, Downpresser, Twitching Tounges, Angel Du$t, Guns up! and Down To Nothing. Shipwreck was a surprise last minute addition to the first day that got people talking. Oh and of course, the UNDEFEATED SOUND AND FURY CHAMPION!! A RECORD 8-0 IN SOUND and FURY HISTORY! BRACEWAR!!!
Enough words! Here are some photos from Day 1.
