Spring Silver, Maryland experimental emo project, is set to release their album, Don’t You Think It’s Strange?, on August 23. Preceding its release are two singles: “The Utilities Models,” available for streaming July 26 and another single debuting August 16.
Spring Silver’s efforts at blending the post-emo genre with noise/indie rock and the manifestation of neo-psych within the tracks themselves, makes these upcoming releases wildly intriguing. Shadowing inspirational bands like Origami Angel or Glass Beach and incorporating syncopated elements of psychedelia, also cultivates a profound listening experience.
K Nkanza, front-person of Spring Silver, has spent over a decade in the DC scene, cultivating relationships with icons such as Brendan Candy, Ian MacKaye, and Kim Coletta. Heavily involved in the culture of the east coast scene, Nkanza’s solo musical abilities on the album are highlighted, and set to be well-received by local listeners.
K explains: “The challenge was to make a song that was hard-hitting from the jump, but kept the real fireworks for the very end. I want each track to be as interesting of a listening journey as I can be. The song is about the dangerous notion that some people’s emotions and well being are inherently more important or legitimate than others. There are lot of reasons why people might adopt this mindset, wealth, race, social performance, etc. It’s something that really gets to me.”
For a consciousness-expanding and truly progressive take on the indie rock genre with an anything-goes attitude, these releases call for a listen.
