We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Belly Up’s new song “You’ll Never Take Me Alive” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming EP Loss, which is scheduled to be released on June 2nd.
The band commented on the song:
“Growing up in Vermont provides somewhat of a cushion from the craziness of the rest of the world. We wanted to write a song that addresses the growing pains of pushing outside of your norm, and ‘You’ll Never Take Me Alive’ is the product of that effort. The lyrics were written on the drive home from a one-off show in Brooklyn last summer. What better city than New York to make a person evaluate the boundaries of their comfort zone?”
Belly Up are a band from Burlington, VT who blend loud, reverb-washed indie rock with punk rock influences. Made up of members Alex Curtis (guitar, vocals) Ben Lau (drums, vocals) and Rob Maynard (bass), the band emerged out of another project which saw two members depart after their debut EP.
Not ready to call it quits, childhood friends Curtis and Lau decided to make a conjoined effort to tackle vocals. They began to form their new sound during the summer of 2016, which also saw them gigging throughout the Northeast, culminating in the band entering the studio in the fall of that same year to record their new EP, titled Loss. The record touches on a wide array of subjects ranging from the monotony of every day life to coping with the finality of death.
Finally arriving at a sound that sincerely represents their collective passion, Belly Up is ready to be heard.
