The band members comment on the music:
“We’re excited to release these new songs after having recorded them back in November. Erik Wallace (of Shibusa Sound) is a great engineer, and expects you to perform at a high level – We had just come back from one tour, and were about to head out on another, so we were well rehearsed and Erik pushed us to get what we wanted from the sessions. Then our friend Seth got us in touch with Mimi (Jaffe – @dr.jaffe), and she put the artwork together really quickly. Overall it was a really fun project, and we’re excited to get it out as we head down back out.” – Hayden Eller (Guitar/Vocal)
“As a musician and a buddy in the Bellingham scene, Erik Wallace gets where we’re coming from and knows what sort of style/quality we’re aiming for. He brought his recording gear out to the house where Hayden and I live and which made it easy for us. So as you could imagine, it was a fun and relaxed process, being in our party mansion with our guitars/amps/snacks and working with our pal. It also kept us productive in the way that it was sandwiched between our tours.” – Jake Barrow (Percussion/Vocal)
“This was one of the most enjoyable recording processes I’ve ever had. We all felt comfortable experimenting with weird tones. For example, we used a tiny, battery-powered pocket amp for the lead guitar on Obsessed. We were on a bit of a time crunch, which forced us to commit to bold production choices that we may have taken out with more time to overthink it.” – Luke Hogfoss (Bass/Vocal)
About The Co Founder:
Over the past year, Bellingham, WA’s The Co Founder has gained the attention of music lovers along the West Coast, due to their unique brand of heartfelt, dynamic, pop music. Equal part 90s indie rock and contemporary indie pop, the group’s debut full-length Wye has been met with widespread acclaim. Described by The Permanent Rain Press as “full of soft and sleepy tunes that rise up to pack a surprising punch, staying honest with a stripped-down feel…,” the album “combines driving indie-rock guitars with daydream vocals and warm arrangements.” (Do206 Seattle).
phd, the band’s vinyl 7″ follow-up release, illustrates a marked step forward, both in terms of songwriting and production quality. Released via LifeVest Records, phd combines the anthemic arrangements of Manchester Orchestra, with lo-fi washed soundscapes reminiscent of The Radio Dept. The band and Erik Wallace (Shibusa Sound) engineered and produced both tracks (Obsessed and Balance) in early November of this past year, following their September West Coast touring cycle. The electronic release of phd comes one month prior to their departure on a two week+ string of SW/West Coast tour dates.
