We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Keep Score’s new song “Guardian” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming debut EP Novice, which is scheduled to be released on April 27, 2018.
Pete Iannitto of Keep Score commented on the new song:
The inspiration for ‘Guardian’ came from an elementary music teacher job I held before moving to Brooklyn. In the year I taught, I felt like I put so much heart and energy into my work, but my efforts often fell flat. Winning my students over was tough, and I was met with resistance daily.
The opening line ‘I don’t know what you need’ represents the push and pull I felt daily trying to teach ‘by the book’ but also attempting to accommodate my students’ interests. Kids are so smart and tech savvy today, my 3rd graders were more up-to-date with popular music than I was.
Iannitto comments on the upcoming EP:
A frequent theme of the EP ‘Novice’ is coming to terms with the fact that even in our late twenties we feel like we have a lot to learn. May it be professionally, musically, or personally this EP represents the anxiety of beginning a life that has long since started.
Tim Phillips of Keep Score adds:
When we moved to NYC, we didn’t have the same studio resources we had back home. We had to record, mix, and master this EP in a variety of small spaces with the bulk of the mixing and mastering being done in my apartment. This was a challenge but I feel it contributed to the essence of starting something fresh.
About the band:
Keep Score is a rock band that was created by two best buds, bassist Pete Iannitto and guitarist Tim Phillips. After nearly a decade of building musical chemistry together in their hometown of MA, Pete and Tim each moved to NYC and teamed up with drummer Bryan Nunez to create a dynamic blend of music from indie songwriting to aggressive guitar rock.
Stay tuned for Keep Score announcing plenty of shows around NYC coming this spring and summer.
