We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Lilac Kings’ new single “Breathe” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming album What Brings Us Back, which is scheduled to be released through We Are Triumphant on November 3rd. You can pre-order the album through iTunes.
The band commented on the new track: “Our release ‘Breathe’ is a song about a few things. It’s about struggle, forgiveness and moving forward. It was actually the very first song I wrote for what would become Lilac Kings.”
The band commented on their influences:
“We have some influences but they go all over the place. From softer bands like Lydia and Eisley, to bands like As Cities Burn and mewithoutYou to Dance Gavin Dance and even Underoath. I even have random inspiration from Punch Brothers. And of course, there are many more.”
The band continues, talking about their inception:
“Lilac Kings was an afterthought in ways. It was mid 2016, I was going through a really hard time in my life and one of the ways I would deal is by writing songs on my acoustic guitar in my apartment. I never thought it’d go anywhere and I was in a decent metalcore band at the time. I would get bored, play around with a DAW, make full band demos and show them to some friends. They were all telling me, ‘This needs to happen!’ So a little on down the road, the metalcore band starts to dissipate and I’m finding myself writing more of these softer songs and really enjoying it.
So I asked a good friend of mine (Blane Hewitt), whom I trusted with the project, to join around December 2016. We did some semi-diy singles and started putting together a live set. Our good friend Anthony Castleberry, who wrote and recorded drums for the ep, filled in for the first couple of shows until we found a permanent drummer. Who we later found to be the 17 year old wonder boy, Cameron Wilkerson. And, I mean, this kid can drum the pants off of anyone.”
