“‘Trash Mental’ was the first song I made for this album. I was trying to figure out the direction the album would to take, and it clicked with this one. It’s the first track on the album as it sort of laid the foundation for it. The song is about the negative thoughts that come from listening to people that would rather talk shit about someone else to bring them down to their level, than working on getting better themselves.” – JC Lobo (aka Ritualz)
We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Ritualz’ new song “Trash Metal” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming debut album Doom, which is scheduled to be released on March 9th through Artoffact Records. You can pre-order the album here.
Born, raised, and based in Mexico City, Lobo launched Ritualz in 2011 and ascended quickly – by 2012, iconic streetwear brand Mishka had released his third EP, Hypermotion X, and heavy world touring followed, including shows with the likes of HEALTH and Prayers. Six years after Hypermotion X, Lobo returns with an album that overshadows all previous work: the first Ritualz full-length, Doom.
Doom was recorded and mixed entirely by Lobo at apartments in Mexico City and Paris, and mastered by Martin Bowes (Nine Inch Nails, Psychic TV). The album is a collection of cryptic pop songs – dream-state anthems, shrouded in gloom, marked by minimal beats, synth hooks in conflict with dissonant layers, and soulful vocals buried in the mix.
