We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Strange Phases’ new song “Something In The Water” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming album Art Of Restart, which is scheduled to be released through Respectful Lust Records on October 27th.

Art Of Restart was initially recorded live as a 3-piece at Station House Studios in Echo Park, CA by engineer Mark Rains in two days. The analog tapes were then dumped onto guitarist/vocalist Curt Barlage’s laptop and the overdubs and production were done DIY style in the Strange Phases downtown rehearsal room over the summer of 2016. Monica Mendoza would do her guitar parts during this time as she commuted from San Diego. Art Of Restart is a very guitar and analog synth driven record. Elements of ’80s college rock, mix with drones of shoegaze and ’90s underground producing a modern, sonic assault that collects the DNA of all eras of rock n roll and beyond.”

Strange Phases was born from the vision of guitarist/vocalist Curt Barlage in 2015. Fresh from the split of his previous band, The Bixby Knolls, Curt instantly immersed himself in the dim, red lights and cigarette haze of an east downtown Los Angeles studio to begin the next chapter of his musical endeavors. Joined by drummer Travis Drum, acquainted by chance meeting, the pair would move beyond the notion that Strange Phases was just a creative hub of scattered ideas and late night demos. Guitarist/keyboardist Monica Mendoza and bassist Patrick Mertens soon joined, completing the line-up and fully functional force known as Strange Phases.

10 songs would be created, compiled and recorded throughout 2016 for their debut full-length album, titled Art of Restart. Driven, yet atmospheric guitars take a front seat, along with confident vocal melodies carried by words of hopefulness, frustration, societal indignation and spiritual freedom. Vintage organs, analog synths, violins, and cellos are entwined with the thunder of the rhythm section, while a Japanese Koto makes several cameos.
