Dick Dale, known as the “King of Surf,” passed away on Saturday, March 16. The cause of his death is unknown at this time.
Dale Influenced countless artists in the surf rock genre and across the broader spectrum of rock. To younger generations, he is probably best known for his song “Miserlou,” which appeared in the 1994 Tarantino film Pulp Fiction. The reverb-heavy riffs are inseparable from the film.
Following the news of his death, many artists paid tribute to the impact Dale made on their lives, including Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys.
I’m sorry to hear about Dick Dale passing. Dick’s guitar playing was a big influence on all of us, and we covered “Misirlou” on our Surfin’ USA album in ‘63. Love & Mercy to Dick’s family. pic.twitter.com/QPd2wzo7zB
