Tancred, the brainchild of Jessica Abbott (Now, Now), has released a music video for “Pens.” The song comes off of the singer’s release Out Of The Garden. The record has received critical acclaim for the incredible songwriting and emotional prowess of Abbott. The music video for “Pens” incorporates horror film tactics to bring to life the otherwise bouncy song. The video itself is eerily seductive, which would also be a fitting way to describe Tancred’s music. Tancred is about to embark on a U.S. and European tour this fall.
“I based the video treatment entirely on the lyrics,” says Abbott. “I wanted to have my plain reality be slowly overcome by this shadowy underworld. I wanted evil to seem really seductive and just take me with it. But evil is still evil no matter how sexy it is so I still needed to die at the end. The directors, Adam and Nicole, created the abstract shots. We had a lot of calls about horror movies and shows, and of course we were writing this when Stranger Things came out so we were all inspired by the visuals in it.”
