Common Wounds are a post-hardcore band from Phoenix, Arizona. We had the pleasure last year of debuting their video for their song “Lament,” and we also reviewed their self-titled EP soon after. Now they’ve got their debut LP, All Night Blood, coming out on October 8 from Protagonist Music. Their first single and accompanying video, “Broken Hands,” is out today and streaming on YouTube.
With a sound like Fugazi meets later Hot Water Music, Common Wounds find a way to wrap up their post-hardcore sound and gruff, abrasive vocals in a neat, little, easily-digestable package. The video sees the band playing the song amidst a backdrop of glitter and neon, that perfectly encapsulates the tension between abrasiveness and pop structures on this track.
