Today’s New Noise: Decoy

Decoy

Happy Friday, rockers! Decoy is a metalcore group out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They recently put out a new EP back in January called re:selection via Upstate Records which is streaming on their Bandcamp, and they released a video for the track “Personality Program” off of the EP that’s streaming on YouTube.

“Personality Program,” which is also the track that kicks off the EP, reminds us that metalcore is supposed to be a punk-metal fusion genre, as the metallic guitars and vocals blend seamlessly with a hardcore punk drumbeat. The video, shot by Carlisle Jones at Lawnchair Youth, sees the band exuding metalcore energy as they rock out to their track in a white void. The EP then progresses on to the second track “SMG” that, again, has a distinctly punk beat, and the song has a nice contrast between hardcore, noise-rock screaming and metallic growling. Finally, closing track “Natural Selection” gets somewhat mathy in its beats from the get-go while still delivering a metalcore punch in the face. It’s a promising EP from a band that you can look forward to hearing more from. Check out the video and album below.
