Welcome back from your holiday, rockers, and happy Boxing Day to our British readers. Jump back into the swing of things with Divine Shade, a dark wave/industrial metal act out of Lyon, France who made a name for themselves by touring in support of Gary Numan and working with Numan’s guitarist Steve Fox-Harris. They just recently put out a new single called “Heaven,” off their upcoming album Fragments Vol.1 which is due out in April. “Heaven” is available right now on their Bandcamp.
“Heaven” is the best of both dark wave and industrial married into one amazing track. The tone is dark and foreboding, but the manic drums kick into industiral-style high gear at times, creating something reminiscent of Stabbing Westward or Garbage. The vocals are screaming, but not to the point of being death metal-style vocals. Rather, the vocals are powerfully cathartic in the way they express emotion. The song has a false ending around the two-minute mark, and when the song comes back after that it moves into full-on industrial meltdown mode, with pummelling drums and vocals that a la Ministry. It’s a dark, powerful track that any fan of dark wave or industrial will want to check out.
