Doll baby ar a garage punk band from Richmond, Virginia. They recently put out a new album called Heirloom, and it’s currently streaming on their Bandcamp.
Heirloom is a gloriously melodic, slightly grungy, warm and fuzzy punk album that’s just a ton of fun to listen to. Opening track “Dose” has some simple punk guitars that are perfectly accentuated by the big melodies and hooky chorus. Then “Fleas” matches that with some really powerful vocal harmonies.
“Treetops” is full of chunky power pop chords that ring out with joy and fun. “Pushover” takes the tempo down a notch, creating a big, slow, grungy hard-rocker with the same beautiful melodies. “Goodbye, Camp Deluxe” has a driving beat that starts with an almost sinister bass line that soon gives way to a hopeful pop melody and really big pop-rock guitars.
Penultimate track “You’re History” is a somber piano ballad that pulls the hand break hard on an album of guitar rockers, but it stands out as an outstanding change of pace. Finally “The Great Divide” has a strong emotional core behind some of the fiercest guitars on the entire album. It’s like if Worriers got a little bit bigger and harder and grungier with their sound.
