Today’s New Noise: Emibyrd

Emibyrd

Happy Friday, rockers! Let’s start your weekend right with a very unique artist. Emibyrd is the solo project of New Jersey-based award-winning artist Emi DeLia, a producer, singer, songwriter, harpist, rapper, and composer.

They graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2022 and can boast a four-octave vocal range and virtuoso harp-skills, and they use that create music that ranges from heart-wrenching pop ballads to cheeky rap diss tracks. Normally I just focus on the latest thing an artist has put out, but that wouldn’t demonstrate the unique stylistic range of Emibyrd, so let’s take a look at a few different examples of their work from this year.

Take, for example, this past June when Emibyrd put out the single “In Your Mind,” a vicious rap track that cuts some egos down to size with some swirling, hypnotic production elements. The “Okay, byee” ending is just the most perfectly sarcastic sign-off for an already biting diss track. Check out the song below.

Now let’s get into Emibyrd’s latest album, Forbidden Love Songs, that they put put out back on Valentine’s Day this year. Opening track “Transforming” demonstrates both their fierce rap skills and their powerful vocal range. The lyrics find a balance somewhere between hip-hop bravado and confident self-love to create a hard-hitting identity anthem. Check out the lyric video for “Transforming” below.

Then another single off the same album, “In the Cold,” is an evocative ballad which features a guest appearance from Alex Golden. It demonstrates Emibyrd’s outstanding musicianship as a harpist and puts their vocal power to the test, showing off a stunning singing ability and powerhouse emotional performance. You can check out the music video for “In the Cold” below.

You’ll definitely want to keep up with this up-and-coming virtuoso, so follow Emibyrd on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for future updates.
