Welcome to the working week, rockers! Femegades are a feminist punk band out of London, U.K. Last week they put out a new EP called Sex Robots that’s streaming right now on Bandcamp.
According to the band, the EP is a concept album about a dystopian future that extends from the modern male culture of seeing women as something they’re entitled to, as objects with a price tag.
Opening track “Broken Bones” is a punk rager that contrasts perfectly with the sultry, powerfully melodic vocals. “What Is Yours Is Mine” lays down the thesis statement of the album with a punk attitude that’s tinged with just a hint of country twang. “No Sex Robots” centers on a dark, slow, moody bass line that perfectly encapsulates the dark dystopian horror of the lyrics. “Toolish” has a similarly infectious bass line, but really rides the gorgeous vocal performance.
The album closes on “Depleted” with its ripping guitar riffs as the lyrics explore the pressures placed on women after childbirth to uphold absurd body images. This is a wonderful slice of riot grrrl that promises they are is a band you’ll be hearing more about in the near future. Check out the EP below.
