Welcome to the working week, rockers! Start your week right with a healthy dose of hardcore. Goblin Soap are a blackened hardcore act out of Germany. I simply had to pick them after seeing their slogan on their Bandcamp of “GOBLINS AGAINST TERFS.” Amen, little goblins! Goblin Soap put out a new EP in July called Goblin Offensive which is available now on Bandcamp.
The whole EP starts off with a sinister-sounding dungeon synth intro that leads into extensive feedback before erupting into an explosion of snarls over some old-school hardcore-style drumming, giving us a satisfying mix of modern and classic hardcore styles. The EP’s title track then comes in like with an ’80s-style hardcore vibe under vocals that get really blackened and snarly.
After another dungeon synth interlude, “Cauldron Born” kicks off with a touch of that synth in the mix to create a gothic vibe on top of the blackened hardcore. “Total Extinction” slows the tempo down a little into something more deliberate, but still keeping that same blackened hardcore style with a touch of melody. “Side Quest” finishes the EP out strong with more of the same, giving us some more ferocious vocals and retro hardcore before closing on another dungeon synth “Ooze-tro.” This is an EP with a lot to love for fans of multiple parts of of the hardcore spectrum. It’s like if Danzig-era Misfits swapped out Danzig for the voice of Satan himself.
