Today’s New Noise: Jordan Maye

Jordan Maye

Welcome to the working week, rockers! We’re starting your week off right with some good, old-fashioned queer rock ‘n’ roll. Jordan Maye is an up-and-coming transgender rock singer-songwriter out of Boston, Massachusetts. Her new album Creation of Jordan Maye came out in August and is now streaming on all platforms.

The album opens on “Deranged,” which starts as a dark piano ballad with a powerful vocal performance before a steady rock beat comes in and becomes a big, fun, Bowie-esque glam rock number. Then “Tuesday” comes in with haunting acoustic guitar melodies to create a beautifully moody number. Next “Walking on Water” comes in with a lively rock beat for a really upbeat song with a powerful energy.

“Tarot” is another piano ballad where the musical simplicity is contrasted with Maye’s powerhouse vocal performance. “Hush” also has as powerful of a vocal performance that’s combined with a mesmerizing sense of imagery and storytelling. “Embers of the Learning Man” is slow and sultry while also being heartfelt with a powerful emotional core. Finally, the closing track “Do You Really Care” ends the album on another Bowie-esque glammy ballad that cracks like thunder and ends the album with the same powerful sense of emotion that the rest of the record showed off. You’re definitely going to want to check out the album below.
