Today’s New Noise: Minor Conflict

Minor Conflict

Minor Conflict are an avant-pop post-punk band out of Bristol, U.K. The band are gearing up for the release of their new Parallels EP on January 24, and the first two singles off the upcoming EP are currently streaming on their Bandcamp.

First up, we have the song “Parallels II” which is a sharp, angular pop tune that twists and contorts pop elements to make something really unique. There are sparse vocals in this track, but when they do come in, the ornate femme falsetto and the soft-spoken masc vocals contrast each other perfectly. Then “Glue,” which is to be the closing track on the new EP, is a slow burner that takes a long time to slowly build up with its intro and then moves from energetic moments to quieter moments in a loud-quiet-loud dynamic that even the Pixies would find to be daring. The mesmerizing vocals and harps make this a fascinating, trance-like experience at times then slowly moves towards the chaotic as the whole thing culminates in a climax of discordant noise. These two tracks are really smart and intricate and make it look like we’re in for a treat with the full EP. Check out the singles below.
