navel grazr is an indie rock/dark dream pop project from New York City. They have a new EP coming out in April called Elegies. The video for the EP’s first single, “Sun Doesn’t Rise,” is streaming now on YouTube.
“Sun Doesn’t Rise” is a wistful song with a big, sweeping, lush soundscape but deeply personal and introspective lyrics. The song deals with the fading of memories and losing connections across time and distance, as influenced by vocalist/guitarist Anjali Nair’s real-life experience as part of the South Asian diaspora. So it’s a very vital identity piece in addition to being a beautiful, though melancholy, track. The video plays off that sense of memory and nostalgia, seeing Nair playing the song as superimposed over old family photos. Check out the video below.
