Today’s New Noise: Pink Suits

Pink Suits

Pink Suits are a queer, feminist punk duo out of Margate in the U.K., and anybody who knows me knows that “queer” and “punk” are two words I love to see together. They recently put out a new album called Dystopian Hellscape and it’s currently streaming on Bandcamp.

“C.O.F.F.E.E.” opens the album on a boisterous punk tune with a swinging rhythm as the band pays tribute to the popular caffeinated beverage. Then the title track comes in with fuzzy punk guitars and vocals that border on rap, as they absolutely skewer British political and economic policies. One of the funniest tracks is called “A Comprehensive Breakdown of How Trickle Down Economics Work” which is just a five-second song where they simply shout “It doesn’t!”

“I Don’t Have Crypto” is a smashing punk song with vocals that are half-sung, half-spoken as the band goes off about crypto, but then delves into tarot cards, football, and acid. “Are You Gay Yet?” is one of the singles off the album, and it starts off as a slow cooker of a punk song before the faster guitars roar in as the lyrics tackle homophobia in the angriest way possible. Then “Tofu Wokerati” lambasts the ridiculous terms that the right wing uses to “insult” the left. The brilliantly titled “Self Care is Punk” ends the album with a classic, ’70’s punk style as the song urges you to care for yourself so you can “live to fight another day.” It’s a really fun punk album that’s got everything you need to rage against the current political climate.
