Welcome to the working week, rockers! Rad Skulls are a punk band out of Rockford, Illinois and Madison, Wisconsin. They recently put out a new demo and it’s available now on their Bandcamp.
Opening track “Stories” comes in with a furious drumbeat and keeps up a breakneck pace but still slows down for tender moments, creating an emotional hardcore/skate punk style song with gorgeous melodies. Then 30-second track “Loud as Shit” is a brilliant burst of short-and-fast hardcore, carried largely by the raspy yet desperately earnest vocal performance. “6:05 GMT” is just everything that’s wonderful about punk, with more breakneck pace and shout-along moments and a powerful melody to a burst of punk rock energy. Finally “Good Thing” has Bouncing Soul-style elements, particularly in the gang chanting at the beginning, but then has these surprisingly emotional moments within this brilliantly hardcore punk song. This whole demo is just chuck full of everything I love about punk rock. Check out the full demo below.
