Today’s New Noise: Rainbow City Park

Rainbow City Park

Happy Valentine’s Day! I wanted to bring you something special for this Valentine’s Day, and I think I found the perfect track. Rainbow City Park is an indie-pop band from Sacramento, California. Today they released their single “Valentines Day 1999.” It’s up now on YouTube.

The band lists some of their influences as Third Eye Blind, The Shins, Phoebe Bridgers, Frightened Rabbit, and you can hear all of that in “Valentines Day 1999.” It’s got that gorgeous early-2000s sound that’s somewhere around the border between the pop-punk wave of emo and twee indie-pop. The lyrics dive into nostalgia and, in a way, almost examine the very nature of nostalgia itself. Musically it’s a dream pop anthem, basking in gorgeous melodies and magnificent pop hooks. If you’re looking to get a little existential and remind yourself that your memories are beautiful, even the ones that make you wince a little bit. Check out the track below.
