Raining Locusts are a progressive black metal group made up of Canada’s Royden Turple of Scarlet Oath Band and The Beckoning and Texas-based Derek Corzine of Testimony of Apocalypse and Burial Extraction. They recently released their first single “Sophistical Monstrosity,” and the track and accompanying video are currently streaming on Bandcamp.
“Sophistical Monstrosity” is a grinding, gnashing metal track with vocals that are less screaming and more deeply growling. The drums are very mathy, stopping on a dime at times, and the addition of sound samples really enhances an already killer track. The glitchy, lo-fi music video is full of bizarre and, at times, disturbing imagery distorted with image effects that make for a dizzying and powerful experience. It’s a video that’s every bit as intense and extreme as the song. Check out the track below.
