Resolver are a femme-fronted street punk band out of Melbourne, Australia. Back in May they put out a new EP called Better Than What? which is streaming right now on Bandcamp.
Better Than What? opens on its own title track with gritty guitars and an aggressive vocal performance from vocalist and guitarist Bel. There’s a lot of Oi-esque shout-alongs that speak to punk’s sense of community and participation. Then “Beast” bears down and just drives forward with punk fury as Bel’s vocals have the spit and snarl of a classic punk band.
“Make It On Your Own” builds a little bit more melody than previous tracks while still being street punk to the core. “Mind Control” is another snotty street punk number with a hard-hitting sense of political commentary. Closing track “To Grow is a Privilege” closes out the EP the way it started: with ripping energy and shout-along choruses. The lyrics are almost wistful and, at the same time, bold and political. It’s a closing track that basically encapsulates everything that’s great about this EP. Check out the whole EP below.
