Sex Dream are a self-described “Hello Kitty punk” trio from Chicago, fronted by bassist and vocalist Maria Surfinbird who moved to the U.S. from Russia in 2018. They have a new video out for their latest single “Sprinkles,” and the video is currently streaming on YouTube.
The term “Hello Kitty punk” seems shockingly appropriate because this song is both sugar-packed sweetness and light and also dark and demented at the same time. Surfinbird shows herself to be engaging and fun as a frontperson, and the video showcases the band’s unique personality. It probably took you longer to read this than it will to watch the video, as the whole thing clocks in at only 51 seconds. Check out the video below.
