Today’s New Noise: Slummy/Saint the Terrifying

Slummy/Saint the Terrifying

Welcome to the working week, rockers! We’re starting your week off right with a healthy dose of weird. Slummy are … well, it’s hard to explain. Basically, they’re a fictional punk band started by Josh Mohr based on the band in his upcoming crime novel Saint the Terrifying, which is the first part of a trilogy. The book is being bundled with the EP Wrong Side, and the first video off the EP for “Size Queens” is streaming now on YouTube.

I don’t normally share what artists tell us in the emails they send us pitching themselves for coverage, but I have to share this one because the first sentence of Josh Mohr’s email to us was utterly epic. Here’s how he opened the email:

“Here is an important question: What if Johnny Rotten had a baby with The Rock?”

How do you not want to read on after seeing that sentence? The aforementioned hypothetical baby of Johnny Rotten and The Rock is Saint the Terrifying, the subject of the book and EP. It’s a hilarious idea for a character, and Mohr seems to have produced a rich world around his character.

“Size Queens” is a rager of a punk song with some fun, angular guitars and a furiously driving rhythm. The video features a punk lesbian couple who get into a squirt gun fight with a cop dressed as a clown, just to up the ante of how bonkers this whole project is. It promises to be a lot of fun, so check out the video below.

You can preorder the book and EP bundle from Unnamed Press.
