Welcome to the working week, rockers! Today is my birthday, so I’m inclined to do something queer and fun for today’s edition of Today’s New Noise, and I think I found just the song. Sophie Shredz is a hyperpop artist out of Nashville, Tennessee who we previously featured in this column last year for her track “Sapphic.” She’s back and continuing to bring the sapphic energy with her new EP Distortionist which is up on streaming services now.
The EP opens on the title track which is a fierce dance anthem that would light the dance floor on fire at any rave, especially with the bizarre samples that they managed to incorporate. “Die in Chanel” is more of a catchy pop tune, full of fun, hyperpop tricks and twists that make it all the more enjoyable. “Sapphic” is featured here and adds an intense sapphic energy to the proceedings. “Rolls Royce” keeps up that catchy vibe but gets darker and more sinister, with almost a nu-metal vibe to it. Finally, the brilliantly titled “Girls Just Wanna Fuck” is a delightful lesbian anthem with delicious pop hooks that you absolutely can’t resist. The EP moves through a lot of moods really quickly, but it keeps up an electronic slickness that keeps the whole thing entertaining. You’ll definitely want to check it out below.
