Today’s New Noise: The Drood

The Drood

The Drood are an experimental industrial band out of Denver, Colorado. Last month, they put out a new album called The Book of Drood with a tripped out video for the opening track “Static Time” which is available both on the band’s Bandcamp and on YouTube.

“Static Time” is a haunting industrial track that harkens back to the ’90s with its dark tone menacingly combined with gorgeous melodies. The vocals echo in such a hypnotizing way that one could hardly be blamed for falling into a bit of a trance with this song. But by the end of it, the song becomes a blaring emergency alarm that breaks through the silence with stunning force.

The video will snap you out of that, as it’s kind of freaky and disturbing. With its harsh black and white aesthetic, it brings to mind experimental films ranging from Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali’s Un Chien Andalou to David Lynch’s Eraserhead. Images of humans are contorted into something unnatural and uncanny that could keep you up at night.
