Today’s New Noise: The Incurables

The Incurables

The Incurables are a pop punk group from Detroit. They just put out a new album last Friday called Inside Out & Backwards on Big Stir Records with the singles “When I Grow Up” and “Someday,” both of which have official videos streaming now on YouTube.

“When I Grow Up” opens on a classic, Clash-esque punk riff to back the snarled punk vocals. The facetious lyrics mock the optimistic view of the future that young people have from someone who’s already gotten through to old age. The music video with it’s flickering, colorful backgrounds is reminiscent of the glory days of MTV music videos.

“Someday,” by contrast, is a simple love song with a crooked drumbeat that creates an almost sinister-sounding hook for the chorus. The bizarrely animated video takes the emotional resonance of the song and distorts it into some truly wacky and unusual imagery, making for something that’s both fun and a little disturbing.

You can purchase Inside Out & Backwards from Big Stir Records. Follow The Incurables on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for future updates.
