Today’s New Noise: Thee Soreheads

Thee Soreheads

Thee Soreheads are a punk band out of Montreal, Quebec. They recently released their debut EP which is called I’m Not Your Fucking Sex Doll. It’s currently up on streaming services and Bandcamp.

The album opens on some down and dirty punk with “3 Strikes.” Vocalist Maria Jimenez’s vocals offer up a classic punk whine that perfectly matches the classic punk stylings that sound like something recorded in a basement in the 1980s. Then “No Means No” tells a spoken story about an overly-aggressive man punctuated with an absolutely raging punk chorus. Next up is the title track, which is pure riot grrrl rage with mean guitars and a swinging beat.

“Riot” incorporates some surf elements complete with the hand claps, but still keeps up the same punk attitude. Penultimate track “Ratlike” is probably the most hardcore track on the album, bringing to mind the gloriously sloppy hardcore punk bands of the ’80s like Black Flag and The Descendents. Finally, “Help” closes out the EP with barely-contained chaos that somehow becomes almost catchy.

Overall, the EP is everything that punk should be: angry, screechy, insightful, and a tad sloppy. Any punk fan will want to check out the EP below.
