Happy Friday, rockers! Tread Lightly is a pop-punk band from Kansas City, Missouri. They recently just put out their first new song in five years called “Racer,” following a tumultuous few years for the band on a personal level, culminating in the untimely death of their drummer Trevor Burk last year. The sudden loss inspired the band to come back together and put out new music in honor of their fallen brother. The new track is streaming now on their Bandcamp.
“Racer” is a straightforward pop-punk banger complete with Tom DeLonge-style vocals and a driving drumbeat that creates something catchy, melodic, and distinctly punk. This feels like Blink at their hardest and fastest moments, like their first reunion album, Neighborhoods. Yet, Tread Lightly isn’t just a derivative band, because there’s a distinctive flavor on this song that’s completely separate from their influences. But, overall, this is exactly what good pop punk should sound like and, if it’s meant, in part, as a tribute to a fallen friend, then it’s certainly worthy of that. Check out the track below.
