Vempire are a synthwave/dance duo from Lincoln, Nebraska featuring Lindsey Yoneda of ghostlike and Mike Elfers of Thirst Things First and The JV Allstars. They’ve been putting out a series of maxi-singles with several remixes on them. Their latest is a dual single of the songs “Shake” and “Blattodea” with several remixes thereafter, and the whole thing is available right now on their Bandcamp.
The original versions of these two tracks couldn’t be more starkly different. “Shake” is a straight-up dance tune with a throbbing bass, complex synths, electronic beats, and femme vocals that just spill over the beats, with just a touch of disco flair to the song to boot. This track would burn up the dance floor at absolutely any nightclub.
Then “Blattodea” has a much slower rhythm with a heavier focus on melody to make a melancholy, synth-pop tune. If electronic music has their own answer to the emo subgenre, this is what it sounds like. There’s then a series of alternate versions including drumless versions, instrumental versions, and remixes from Downtown Sasquatch, Toilet Rats, Vapor, and more. It’s a lot of fun variations on this gorgeous pair of songs, so check out the entire single below.
