Welcome to the working week, rockers! With only one week to go until jolly ol’ Saint Nick heads down your chimney to leave you a copy of that new Clowns album on colored vinyl, we thought we’d do a whole week of holiday-themed songs for Today’s New Noise. First up is Wife Patrol, an alternative-rock band based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. They recently put out a new holiday song called “Christmas ’96” which is currently streaming on their Bandcamp.
Between the church bells and jingle bells, this track has a lot of Christmas energy, but it’s also got a dark, foreboding energy that permeates the entire song. The dark guitars have an almost metallic energy to them without getting into anything that could explicitly be called metal, but it still has that deep, dark, gothic feel to it. The vocals have really have a dark yet gorgeous melody to them as well. If you like your holiday songs with a bit of a sinister edge to them, you’ll want to check out this track.
