Welcome to the (short) working week, rockers! Willowake is an alternative, indie-punk band out of Los Angeles, California. They’re releasing their debut EP next month on one of my favorite labels, Wiretap Records. The EP was co-produced by Jakob Armstrong, son of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and the band Ultra Q. They just released the latest single off of the EP today called “Dog.” The video for the single is streaming now on YouTube.
“Dog” is a catchy and powerful indie-punk tune that’s got hooks, but doesn’t lean too heavily on them. The song has strong lyrics and melodies that make for a punk tune that’s somehow energetic and melancholy at the same time. The deeply impressionistic music video is full of bizarre imagery like the band members floating, fully-clothed, in a swimming pool or the band meeting poorly-made facsimiles of themselves. It’s a strange and entrancing music video that you have to watch to understand how good it is. Check out the video below.
