So far, 2014 has been a complete blur musically. In this day and age of bands being basically forced to put out records and tour constantly to survive, it has been very hard to keep up thus far with all the new releases.

Alas, I have done my best to compile my list of the best albums released between January and the end of June. The scary part of this whole thing is… when you see my most anticipated records still to come list, you’ll see that some of the best stuff of the year still hasn’t come out yet.

Decembre Noir - A Discouraged Believer

50. Decembre Noir – A Discouraged Believer

Incredibly sad, emotionally crushing doom reminiscent of similar of older Katatonia.

Diocletian - Gesundrian cover

49. Diocletian – Gesundrian

Incredibly heavy, old school blackened death metal with the rumble and stomp of 500 tanks rolling over you.

Nausea - Condemned to the System

48. Nausea – Condemned To The System

A big ole dirty, rotten slab of old school death/grind from the legendary voice of Terrorizer.

Down Among The Dead Men - Down Among The Dead Men

47. Down Among The Dead Men – Down Among The Dead Men

Brutal, old school death metal done absolutely perfect.

Indian - From All Purity cover

46. Indian – From All Purity

Slow, brooding, hateful and robotic. Post-apocalyptic doom from the deepest depths of hell.

Ringworm – Hammer of the Witch

45. Ringworm – Hammer of the Witch

Fundamentally perfect old school hardcore from the masters of the craft.

Black Anvil - Hail Death cover

44. Black Anvil – Hail Death

Black metal done with an old school touch, but just rocking enough to sound relevant and interesting.

Exmortus – Slave To The Sword

43. Exmortus – Slave To The Sword

Shred, shredding, shreddiest!

Archspire - The Lucid Collective cover

42. Archspire – The Lucid Collective

Technical death metal that’s interesting enough to hold your attention and chaotic enough to make you stop paying for guitar lessons.

Mastodon - Once More Round The Sun

41. Mastodon – Once More Round The Sun

As far as rock albums go, this record is awesome. As far as Mastodon records go, it doesn’t hold up quite as well, but is a grower, not a shower.

  3. I HIGHLY suggets you check out Xanthochroid – Blessed he with Boils, it will be in your top 5 guranteed. It’s “Cinematic” metal with black/folk influences. It’s Fucking amazing, infinite replay value.
