Midwestern emo inspired Jacksonville, Florida band Glazed have been in the making for years. Originally slingers of tickets for touring bands coming through the area like Bane, Four Year Strong, Citizen, Turnover, The Get Up Kids and more, the group began to craft their name DIY style. After becoming a local fixture in the bughouse scene to selling out their upcoming record release show, COVID-19 put a damper on things.
The band released their first full-length record in 2016 titled ‘You’ve Changed’ recorded at Earthsound Recording studio by Lee Dyess (From First To Last, Mayday Parade, I Set My Friends On Fire). Their track “Disheveled” featuring Max Bemis of Say Anything happened after the band contributed to the Bemis Family Kickstarter tier where Bemis offered to lay down some vocals for a track.
“I think the song captures that rude feeling someone might experience waking up from a nap – that weird taste in your mouth, odd cynical thoughts, and the physical unkemptness that comes with it,” vocalist and guitarist Justin Belichis said. “It may suck at the time, but existing as a disheveled one can be cathartic, and a necessary part of grief you might have to embrace and just bask in to get better [and] to move forward. Sometimes if you break a bone, it can grow back stronger.”
A powerful emo pop blend of Destiny’s Child inspired guitar intros and layered vocals in between harmonized hooks, the track is infectious. Small instances of nods to songs like “Admit It!!!” and “Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too” with the phone sound byte in the intro and track name “Disheveled”, the song has depth in all facets.
“Having Max on our track is something I never thought would actually happen. It still doesn’t feel real to me. Say Anything has been one of my all time favorite bands since high school so it’s such an honor to have him lay down a vocal part for us,” guitarist Reid Johnson said. “Still so crazy watching my heroes turn human in front of me.”
