Texas musician and multi-instrumentalist Logan Grimm is an ambitious young artist seeking to take on the world. As Grimmrepear, he has developed an intense backstory for a multimedia project that explores the very human realities of tragedy and suffering, and the choices they present, from nihilism and resentment to transcendence and courage. The project, titled The Tragedy Of Being, will be unleashed upon the world on March 30.
New Noise Magazine is proud to premiere the fourth and final single from The Tragedy of Being, “Road of Resistance,” below:
The track is a cover version of Japanese metal juggernaut Babymetal’s “Road of Resistance,” which features Dragonforce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman on the original version.
Discussing the process behind the cover, Grimm comments:
“This cover has been two years in the making. I recorded most of this album in my apartment when I lived in Japan, so it only fits that I covered a Japanese band like Babymetal. This was the hardest song I’ve done as a new artist, but it pushed me so far beyond my limits.
Dragonforce wrote this song, and it’s not easy learning those solos when you’re a rhythm guitar player! I don’t even like lead guitar, so doing it by myself was a huge challenge.
I reinterpreted the lyrics in English to capture the original meaning and add my own feel. I love how the final product sounds, and I hope you do too.”
Grimmreaper’s solo project has been described as mixing technical styles like those of Dragonforce and Meshuggah with mainstream styles like Bullet For My Valentine and Five Finger Death Punch. The Tragedy of Being is a dark record with many twists and turns, but never boring. The album is a journey through different tastes of metal, and while it’s meant to be enjoyed from start to finish, each song stands strong on its own.
