Fresh off their 2017 North American Take Over Tour, Lansing, MI-based thrashers TYRANT returns with the release of a new video for the single “Fear of Faith.” The new track will soon appear on Tyrant’s full-length debut album. The nine-track record is set for release later this year.
Shot in Dec. 2017, lyrically, the “Fear of Faith” single is “an ode to outsiders,” according to vocalist/guitarist Philip Winters. The heavy-and-hooky chorus, “Fear of faith [of a] faith of fear” touches on religion, death and distorted beliefs.
“It’s about not wanting to be pushed into something that you believe is a hateful and bigoted world view – religion of any sorts – and still have to be subjected to it,” Winters said. “It’s an ode to people wanting to live their life on their own terms, without fear of some after-life punishment.”
Visually, the “Fear of Faith” video pulled metaphorical inspiration from religious displays and images – including flowers, candles and cast iron. Meanwhile, the roses symbolize both a death and rebirth of the band with its newest lineup.
The upcoming 2018 LP is a follow up to the band’s 2016’s Black Hand EP, a loud, fast and angry collection of Michigan-made metal. Headbangers FM describes the single “Dead Sacrament” as “a high-octane whirlwind.” Since its 2011 genesis, Tyrant has shared stages with the likes of Battlecross, Metal Church, Deicide and Havok – not to mention many packed headlining shows.
