Usurpress Premiere Third Single Off “The Regal Tribe’

Sweden’s Usurpress have revealed a brand new song, “Throwing The Gift Away.” The doom/crust/prog infused death metal quartet, featuring death metal expert Daniel Ekeroth on bass (author of the book “Swedish Death Metal”) and recently acquired drummer Mattias “Matte” Modin (ex-Dark Funeral), will release a new album on September 23rd via Agonia Records. The record, entitled The Regal Tribe, is the band’s follow up to 2014’s Ordained. The new record from Usurpress deals with Stefan Patterson’s battle with bone marrow cancer.

“Throwing The Gift Away” begins rather ominously, with a lone bass guitar opening the door for the rest of Usurpress to charge in. About The Regal Gift, Patterson had this to say, “We decided early on to discard the traditional way of songwriting/arranging and compose The Regal Tribe one piece at the time, starting with the first riff in the first song and ending with the last riff in the 10:th song. That way we hoped to avoid the album becoming repetitive and stale and instead more fluent and powerful. Listening back to the finished album, I’m convinced we did the right thing. This is the album we have always sought to do.”
