7candystars are releasing their new EP, Cherish, May 15. Check out the video for “Corners” here.
“Corners” marks the debut single from 7candystars, who bring a refreshing, modern take on the alternative rock and post-punk sounds they grew up on. The track’s synth-driven melody and crisp guitars accentuate the blurred and distorted imagery in the video, providing a raw, lush look into their world.
“‘Corners’ is about giving into the cruelty that’s been inflicted upon you,” the band explain. “It becomes this thing outside of you, directing your actions. This is the first track we worked on as a band, and it touches on many of the influences and styles that we had in mind when we started this project. We both wanted to pay homage to the ‘punk’ side of post punk and the more rock-oriented music that had ‘goth’ trappings.
“That shows in subtle decisions we made in regards to the drum programming, guitar and bass tones, synth sounds, etc. There are quite obvious nods to The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Stand Inside Your Love” and The Church’s “Under The Milky Way Tonight” along with lots of small details we pulled from really digging into The Chameleons, Depeche Mode, New Order, etc.”
