Video Premiere: Alleys and Gangways – ‘Catch Your Summer’

Alleys and Gangways

Alleys and Gangways are back with the release of their latest three-track EP, Long Shot. With it, the Chicago-based quartet bring a classic, multi-layered sound that’s intense enough to cater to punks while still bouncy enough to retain the pop.

Stacked from floor to ceiling with catchy hooks, sweeping melodies, and an upbeat style, Alleys and Gangways are a breath of fresh air in a scene saturated with brooding tones and bitter lyrics.

In fact, their strength is in their songwriting. Their lyrical power is moving and compelling. Bandmates Jaret O’Neil, Nick Thomas, Davey Grzeslo, and Erik Manninen each bring their original styles to the table. This includes the rattling drums at the beginning of “Do It For Butterflies” and the wailing guitar solo at its end, the deep walking bass line in “Catch Your Summer” that opens the EP, their alternating harmonies and roaring gang vocals, all the way down to the folk-like opening riff on the second track. The scale of their diversity knows no bounds.

On the release of Long Shot, friend of the band and recording engineer Dan Tinkler states:

“In the quest to define their sound and pave their own path, Alleys and Gangways have now arrived at their destination. Their sophomore release is the apogee of the band’s experiences packaged into a three-song EP. These are pop-punk songs at their core, delivering vocal melodies you can’t ignore, while the spicy riffs and spankin’ drums maintain the band’s rock ‘n’ roll roots. Betcha can’t listen just once!”
