New Noise Magazine is beyond stoked to present the music video for “Lie To Me” by Dark Smith. The band is a retro fitted, sludge driven supergroup of the Pacific Northwest. “Lie To Me” plays out with a bit of hazy guitar work, like that found in a shoegaze band, but cut with a deep bellow that makes the project sonically heavier. This ambience is both mezmerizing and daunting, creating an uncanny hopeless space full of a wandering atmosphere. The vocals are delivered with a surging might, especially during the chorus. The pulsing rhythmic structure that holds this song together is steady in its approach, keeping the energy and pace of the song focused. Dark Smith is contemplative, detailed and decorative with their songwriting. Check out the song below and make sure to hit up the Lie To Me Release Show (with Dirty Dirty).
“The “Lie To Me” video grew out of the visual for It Gets Worse that inverted the biblical crucifixion, gender-flipping the roles of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Lia came up with the idea of Jesus and Judas in love, which built a story in a way that just spoke to these two songs equally.” – Danny
“We’re all about queering up stories to open up minds. There’s *always* more to the story…” – Lia Lovecraft (bass)
“The making of ‘Lie To Me’ was a total surprise. The original guitar line was supposed to be reversed, but unfortunately I’m not capable of playing backwards while moving forwards in time.” – Ashe (guitar)
“It was surprising how some of the songs fell together easily, while a couple fought like trapped badgers.” – Lia (bass)
“But I love [the EP]. It caresses my sad parts nicely.” – Nozomi (drums)
Dark Smith are also happy to announce that they have an EP entitled Prehysteria due out on March 5th via Noise Noise Ouch Stop Records. Pre-sale begins on February 19th (President’s Day)! Stay tuned!
DARK SMITH is a new dreampunk/alternative band founded by Seattle’s Danny Denial and Ashe Tempest of Post-Rapture Party, along with bassist Lia Lovecraft and actress-model-drummer-jill-of-all-trades Nozomi Momo. Together, they’re creating music infused with elements of shoegaze, metal, and new wave to create a heavier take on dreampop and alternative rock. “Lie To Me” is the second single from upcoming EP PREHYSTERIA via Noise Noise Ouch Stop Records, produced by Alexander Wekell of Skyfeather Studios. The Toran Whitaker-directed narrative video stars musician Raven Hollywood and performance artist Jade Dynasty.
