New Jersey singer-songwriter Felons has released the official visualizer for his latest single, “You End I,” a brooding industrial track that continues the self-proclaimed ‘street folk artist’s foray into electronic music.

“‘You End I’ is a track I wrote during the first few weeks of quarantine,” says Felons. “At the time, I was working heavy with my best friend and producer Plantcham and I brought the guitar riff and opening verse to him, and we locked ourselves in his studio and went to work.”

While it’s true that Felons has made his mark in the Hudson County folk-rock scene, the pandemic brought out a darker side of the project, and it’s a sound Felon and his producer Plantcham are fully invested in.

“We were experimenting with a lot of new sounds, especially in the electronic element, which helped me reinvent these folk style songs I had written. After creating over a dozen tracks with Plantcham, I decided to completely rebrand my vision and establish myself as a true solo artist.”

Despite achieving moderate success and recognition fronting indie blog darlings Ferentz and The Felons, the enigmatic singer is ready to be himself under his new moniker, Felons.

“I kept playing music that was getting put in a box as Ferentz and The Felons, and I realized that I wanted to achieve more as an artist,” he explains. “I’m a kid who grew up in the projects with two rock n’ roll parents battling heavy heroin addiction and watched their overdoses. I found my place in the New York Hardcore scene and aggressive music in general, so I don’t want to be in a box. I don’t want to be labelled.”

Felons credits influential NYHC bands like Agnostic Front and Madball for inspiring the Jersey native to mix things up.

“Bands like Madball, Agnostic Front, and Biohazard were throwing down heavy, aggressive music, but with a message and an urban feel,” he explains. “‘You End I’ is just that and challenges not only myself but my surroundings. A song that every vibe, every culture can feel.”
