2020 was supposed to be a busy year for Phoenix, Arizona’s Ghost In The Willow. A third EP was on the horizon along with a promotional DIY tour in early summer. However, Covid-19’s world wide havoc canceled all activity for the band and pushed the EP’s release into 2021.
After months of quarantining Ghost In The Willow’s singer/guitarist Gil Rodriguez and drummer Sean Harris decided to record a few covers in the studio to pass the time. One of these covers was “American Slang” by The Gaslight Anthem.
The basic tracks sounded good so Gil sent an email to his friends in Lovebreakers thousands of miles away in Birmingham, England and asked if they wanted to lend their talents to the song. Jack, Christian and David were gracious in recording additional vocals, bass and lead guitar to the iconic New Jersey staple via file sharing over the internet.
The single was mixed and mastered by Elijah Newman in Nashville, TN & Jeff Niemoeller spliced together footage of both bands to create a music video and now it’s here for you to enjoy a familiar classic performed by two up and coming indie-punk/rock bands from both sides of the pond.

On the new video Gil had the following to say:
“We wanted to do the song justice and not veer too far from the original. It was done from a place of love, respect & admiration for The Gaslight Anthem and we hope they don’t mind us taking their song for a spin.”
