Chicago rockers Heavy Seas have announced the release of their debut LP, Everything Breaks, out July 16 through Sell The Heart Records (US), Rad Girlfriend Records (US) and Little Rocket Records (UK and EU).
New Noise are proud to premiere the video for the album’s lead single, “Waves and Dreams,” below:
Chicago-based Heavy Seas makes their debut with Jesus Lizard rhythms over melodies that channel early Sonic Youths’ more aggressive atmospheres. Everything Breaks marks the first ten songs from singer/guitarist Jeff Dean (All Eyes West, Dead Ending, The Bomb), drummer Ronnie DiCola (All Eyes West, The Arrivals) and bassist Katie Karpowicz (Airstream Futures).
Everything Breaks was recorded with J. Robbins (Jawbox, Government Issue) at Robbins’ Magpie Cage Recording Studio in Baltimore. Robbins and co-producer Rodrigo Palma (Saves The Day) channelled the raw talent and energy of a newly formed band into a release that’s as controlled as it is catchy.
Lead single “Waves And Dreams” leaves its mark immediately with a wall of sound and intensity. On the track’s release, bassist Katie Karpowicz states:
“The bulk of Everything Breaks was recorded in late 2019, so the pandemic really put plans on hold. We were all super grateful to have the eventual release of this record as a motivator to get us to the other side, but, wow, does it feel way overdue!
‘Waves And Dreams’ was the first Heavy Seas song that really came together during the demo process. I think we always kind of knew it would be the first taste of the band that we would want to put out into the world.”
Other tracks on Everything Breaks like “Fade Away” and “Caved In” catch a softer, dreamier side of the band, one that might even draw comparisons to the ‘90s-era surge of shoegaze bands.
