Let M!R!M! take you a psychedelic journey with the video for “Testament” from their new album The Visionary out January 31 on Avant! Records.

Still featuring Jack Milwaukee at the helm along with selected collaborators as supplementation, The Visionary is a further evolution in M!R!M’s sound, which showcases how the musician’s vision has evolved throughout the years.

As with every M!R!M album, Milwaukee sticks to his magic formula: writing and recording everything you hear in his bedroom in east London.

‘’Within these walls I cherish all my hopes and face all my fears. This room knows me best; there’s no other place where I could feel more comfortable and focused,’’ Milwaukee explains.

Holding firmly to the vibes that recall the most dreaming 80’s, Jack Milwaukee this time blends together that typical FM synth timbre, which has always characterized his work, with deeper and sumptuous sounds found within the notes of Mellotron and sax, overcoming previous Lo-Fi approaches to undertake a solid, prominent, and more mature path.

The Visionary is a collection of songs pieced together in a meaningful and harmonious way where the storytelling is very vivid and fundamental. Trapped between hope and melancholy, each track evolves smoothly into another one until it gets to a mystical end, a point of no return.

From syncopated, punchy bass lines drove by solid drum beats to elegant violin quartets accompanied by almost religious choirs, The Visionary is an engaging work that doesn’t remain only inside the robes of shimmering, synth-pop tunes but also explores more intimate and private territories as an ode to the most deep feelings.

Pulling from the ‘pop’ approach of mid-80s synth-pop pioneers like New Order, The Wake, Tears for Fears to most iconic figures of the Italian, 8’s era, M!R!M dial in on a clear understanding of their own specific sound, which has since evolved.

The Visionary is the ultimate, unified vision of M!R!M’s work; it’s the sweetest transition of the most nostalgic daydream.

Milwaukee says about the album: “The record comes out of experiencing a lot of emotional turmoil caused by the loss of my best friend at the end of 2017 and wanting to create something that could pay tribute to her and to our friendship. The Visionary is the manifesto of those who decided to be not afraid of being different despite people’s judgment because being yourself always and, in any case, is the most important thing.”

‘’Although the heavy bass groove makes the song particularly dancey and upbeat, the lyrics are moody, nostalgic and dreamy; they are about the strong friendship between a man and a woman,” he adds. “It’s a statement of love, not a carnal love, but a ‘love’ you can feel also for a family member or a special one.
“‘Testament’ is one of the last songs I wrote for the album and one of those I wrote entirely in one day.”
